SNAPSHOT OF MY WORK

I’ve put together a carefully curated selection of my favorite work. Read the samples below and feel free to get in touch to learn more about my work or to send any writing opportunities my way.

SHEDDING LIGHT ON WHAT HISTORY SHADOWED

May 2020

"...Walcott presents that the erasure of black Caribbean history was not an accident and that this specific past was purposefully hidden away."

As an English major at UC Davis, I have to admit that some of my best moments of critical thinking take place in an academic setting. That being said, the essay I wrote on Derek Walcott's "The Sea is History" is a piece that I am especially proud of, as its deeper analyses is one that continues to remain significant and relevant within society.

CHRONICLES OF ECONOMY CLASS

October 2019

"For our first adventure, the goal is to survive the journey."

This short snippet is a part of my "slice of my life" series, which I am posting periodically on my creative blog. Please enjoy my awkward adventure, told in a narrative style. This piece in particular was selected by curators on Medium to be a part of their Travel section.

SHADES OF A SARI

December 2018

"Hidden away, behind an enticing forest of thick, American clothing, were spectacular remnants of a lost world."

This short story is one that I am especially proud of, as it voices a message that I have carried with me throughout my life. To add to my happiness, the story was featured in Volume 5 of Fool's Magazine, a student publication at the University of Iowa.

TO SCREEN OR NOT TO SCREEN

December 2018

"While––spoiler alert––I got to see a cute happy ending, I also was surprised to find a flurry of problematic undertones..."

From August 2018 to May 2019, I was an opinion columnist for the Daily Iowan at the University of Iowa. While this was not my most viewed article by any means, it was one of my favorite articles to research and write.
